Who Should Attend
All contractors working within quarrying environment, on sites that support quarrying, such as concrete, mortar, cement and asphalt plants, wharfs or surface mining.
Aims
The main aims of the course are to increase contractor awareness of health and safety issues at work and to encourage safe behaviour during day to day work activities in the extractives industry.
Content
- By the end of the course, members will;
v have a basic knowledge of health and safety law as it applies to them
v understand their personal responsibilities for safety at work
v have an understanding of how accidents are caused and how they can be prevented
v be able to identify and correct unsafe behaviours
v have an improved understanding of the purpose, use and care of personal protective equipment
v understand the importance of maintaining plant and equipment in good condition
v have an understanding of safe driving behaviour, including safe reversing
v have an improved ability to recognise site hazards and know what they can do to minimise the risk from them
v understand the requirement for suitable and sufficient risk assessment
v have a basic knowledge of the principles of safe systems of work and permits to work
v be aware of specific hazards and how the risks from them can be controlled

Duration and Delivery Options
The initial course is a 2 day course, delegates must pass the assessment at the end of Day 1 to progress onto Day 2 of the course. Delegates must also pass Day 2 of the course to be issued with an MPQC Contractor Safety Passpor, which is valid for 3 years. Following this period a 1 day refresher course will be required.
